<strong>Pesticides</strong> & <strong>Herbicides</strong><br />
Fipronil and metabolites Sulfide, Sulfone and Desulfonyl<br />
Fipronil has been used in many insecticide formulations since being introduced in 1987.<br />
Three of its metabolites are:<br />
Sulfide, which is a product of reduction in soil.<br />
Sulfone, from oxidation in soil,<br />
and Desulfonyl, which is a photocatalyzed degradate.<br />
Fipronil is toxic to birds, fish and some invertebrates. It is a WHO Class II moderately<br />
hazardous pesticide, and is a Group C (Possible Human) carcinogen. Some metabolites are<br />
considered more toxic than the base compound. (Environmental Fate of Fipronil, CA EPA,<br />
2001)<br />
Our chemists have synthesized each of the metabolites with high purity. These metabolites<br />
are now available to laboratories. In addition to these compounds, we also offer 3,200<br />
pesticides in neat and single or multi solution forms. AccuStandard continues to synthesize the<br />
metabolites of other pesticides and will be making them available.<br />
