The Concordance relat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> catalogue numbers between <strong>the</strong> several volumes <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> Ashmolean Sylloge and Giulio Bernardi’s Islamic gold <strong>co<strong>in</strong>s</strong> Corpus is a most<br />
useful tool for <strong>the</strong> numismatist. Hav<strong>in</strong>g both publications to hand, one can easily<br />
confirm <strong>the</strong> existence <strong>of</strong> specific gold <strong>co<strong>in</strong>s</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> early Islamic dynasties and<br />
<strong>the</strong> locations <strong>of</strong> some known specimens. The additional <strong>in</strong>dication <strong>of</strong> previously<br />
unknown types, as shown <strong>in</strong> bold type, is also very welcome <strong>in</strong>formation, <strong>in</strong>deed.<br />
The SYLLOGE<br />
is <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ventory <strong>of</strong> a collection with descriptions and pictures <strong>of</strong> every co<strong>in</strong>. The<br />
usual classification follows <strong>the</strong> MINT-DATE-TYPE outl<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
The CORPUS<br />
is <strong>the</strong> systematic set <strong>of</strong> well known <strong>co<strong>in</strong>s</strong>, placed <strong>in</strong> numerous collections, follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>the</strong> TIPE-MINT-DATE outl<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
THE CONCORDANCE OF THE LINK SYLLOGE WITH THE CORPUS<br />
AND THE CORPUS WITH THE SYLLOGE<br />
The SYLLOGE <strong>of</strong> Islamic Co<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ashmolean (volume 2, 3, 4, 6, 10)<br />
conta<strong>in</strong>s 7768 excellent pictures and precise descriptions <strong>of</strong> gold, silver and<br />
copper Islamic <strong>co<strong>in</strong>s</strong>. About a thousand gold <strong>co<strong>in</strong>s</strong> are <strong>in</strong> account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> period<br />
concern<strong>in</strong>g my Corpus. There are 35 (listed here <strong>in</strong> bold) <strong>of</strong> type, m<strong>in</strong>t or date<br />
that are still unpublished <strong>in</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r catalogues. These enrich <strong>the</strong> 2129 types already<br />
described <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> CORPUS.<br />
