As fire destroyed the cooperatively owned United<br />
Feeds mink feed operation, 3,000 mink were released<br />
from the nearby Gene Meyer Fur Farm.The<br />
simultaneous action saw the total destruction of the<br />
feed operation, jointly owned by over 20 mink<br />
farmers in a regioin with one of the highest concerntrations<br />
of fur farms in the country. Addition-<br />
ally, Gene Meyer announced in the wake of the<br />
action he could not survive the loss of profits and<br />
would be closing.<br />

The Animal Liberation Front took credit for<br />
the overnight release of every animal at the Scott<br />
Nelson mink farm. In the media the following<br />
day, Nelson announced most of the animals had<br />
been recaptured. The ALF returned 4 days later<br />
and re-liberated every animal. The following<br />
day, Scott Nelson announced the farm would be<br />
closing.<br />

Operation Bite Back was a campaign to destroy<br />
the fur industry, brought to five states over 16<br />
months. Using arson, liberations, and theft and<br />
destruction of documents; 7 key points in the fur<br />
industry were targeted in an attempt to completely<br />
eradicate the fur industry’s research apparatus.<br />
Rodney Coronado was indicted for his role in this<br />
campaign, and sentenced to 57 months in prison.<br />
