Motivation • Fuzzy theory has brought a hidden uncertainty, fuzziness, to light which is interpreted as uncertainty concerning the meaning of wording. • Wording has three kinds of uncertainty, viz., ambiguity, fuzziness and nonspecificity (take „that book‟; put it „there‟). • So far, only ambiguity has been considered in natural language processing. Fuzziness is, however, a much more dominant uncertainty than both ambiguity and nonspecificity. A fundamental question is: “What kinds of uncertainty are we aware of ?” How can we answer this question ?
