Year 6 – The Breadwinner
In Year 6, we studied The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis.
At the end of the book Shauzia is leaving Afghanistan
and aiming to flee to Europe. She tells Parvana that
she will meet her in twenty years time on the 1st day
of Spring at the top of the Eiffel Tower. We imagined
the reunion scene.
21st March 2023, a warm spring evening in Paris, at
the top of the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is packed
and there is virtually no room to move
SHAUZIA: (To the crowd) Parvana, Parvana, where
are you?
PARVANA: Shauzia, Shauzia, is that really you?
SHAUZIA: Dur! Course it’s me.
PARVANA: “But what are you holding? A pug in a pink
coat?
SHAUZIA: Oh her, she’s nothing special, I have 10 billion
other dogs in coats in my mansion down in the
South of France.
PARVANA: Why are you wearing Abercrombie and
Hollister in the same outfit?
SHAUZIA: Because I can!
PARVANA: I suppose you have a swimming pool the
size of 20 double decker buses too!!
SHAUZIA: Actually no but thanks for the idea! I can
add it to my 30 tennis courts, my 10 squash courts, my
gym and my state-of-the-art sauna.
PARVANA: Wow! How did you earn so much money?
SHAUZIA: That’s the best bit ...... I didn’t!
PARVANA: What! You stole millions of euros!?!?
SHAUZIA: No, no, well not exactly. I got my dogs to
do most of the work. They ripped the guards to pieces
and I jammed the security cameras, and from then on
it was easy.
PARVANA: So basically you robbed a bank?
SHAUZIA: No, of course not, I’m not that risky. I stole
the Mona Lisa!
PARVANA: Not risky! Not risky! You must be crazy!
SHAUZIA: I’m not risky! Just a GENIUS!
PARVANA: (To herself) More like evil genius!
SHAUZIA: I beg your pardon.
PARVANA: Oh nothing.
SHAUZIA: I’m not stupid, I heard that.
PARVANA: All I ‘m saying is, you’ll be caught sooner
or later.
SHAUZIA: Never!
PARVANA: See what I mean, you are an evil genius!!
