4.4.1 <strong>6W</strong>INDGate Fast Path Modules<br />

<strong>6W</strong>INDGate Fast Path Modules implement a large set of networking features for MC.<br />

To achieve the highest level of performance, these modules can run in the MCEE (<strong>6W</strong>INDGate SDS).<br />
Thus they are therefore independent from the selected Operating System.<br />
Fast Path Modules can also be implemented as Linux kernel modules located between the drivers and the<br />
Linux Networking Stack (<strong>6W</strong>INDGate EDS). This solution is well-suited for small MC configurations or if<br />
no specific MCEE is available for the selected MC (refer section 3.5).<br />
For each networking feature, a <strong>6W</strong>INDGate Fast Path Module has been designed, having in mind the<br />
following design rules:<br />
• Fast Path Module shall be simple and efficient,<br />
• Fast Path Module shall be easily integrated with a Linux-based Slow Path and Control Plane<br />
through simple APIs,<br />
• Fast Path Module shall be portable.<br />
The following <strong>6W</strong>INDGate Fast Path Modules have been developed:<br />
• Fast Path – IPv4 Forwarding (This module includes the Fast Path Manager module, refer section<br />
5.3)<br />
• Fast Path – IPsec<br />
• Fast Path – L2 (This module is based on VNB framework, refer section 4.3.1)<br />
• Fast Path – QoS<br />
• Fast Path – Reassembly<br />
• Fast Path – NAT & Filtering<br />
• Fast Path – IPv6 Forwarding and Transition<br />
• Fast Path – ROHC<br />
• Fast-Path – IPv4 Multicast<br />
• Fast-Path – IPv6 Multicast<br />
• Fast Path – TCP Offload<br />
To scale on distributed architectures, <strong>6W</strong>INDGate Fast Path also includes a specific module:<br />
• Fast Path – Multi-instance<br />
