After a few minutes of basic seamanship, we were off.<br />

We were on our own, mobile <strong>and</strong> the world was<br />

our oyster. We decided to moor our "yacht" in Coronado's<br />

Glori etta Bay for the sum mer. Somehow we managed<br />

to sai I from National City to Glorietta Bay but<br />

we did not know how to stop the boat. It had no brakes<br />

We did not want to run on the rocky shore of the<br />

Bay, so we decided the best solution was to steer<br />

at the smallest boat in the harbor, grab it <strong>and</strong><br />

tie up to it. This turned out to be a rowboat which<br />

we hit squarely. Raymond grabbed the rowboat <strong>and</strong> I<br />

lowered the sails. Our first l<strong>and</strong>ing was a success but<br />

hardly a com mendable example of seamanship. We<br />

swam to the swank Coronado Yacht Club <strong>and</strong>, dripping<br />

wet, announced we were yachtsmen from Imperial Beach<br />

<strong>and</strong> wanted to moor our yacht at the club. Reluctantly<br />

they agreed for a charge of $3. Though expensive,<br />

we signed up for one month, were assigned a buoy<br />

<strong>and</strong> tied up to it. However, the next day when we<br />
