Master of International Agriculture (MIAP) <strong>Director</strong>ship Responsibilities<br />
1. Serves as the director of the program.<br />
2. Has succeeded in increasing MIAP enrollment from nine in 2008 to sixty students in 2012.<br />
MIAP is currently the second largest masters program in CASNR.<br />
3. Maintains critical working relationships, coordination, and cooperation with departments and<br />
faculty from all CASNR and other Colleges at OSU and outside of OSU.<br />
4. Supervises four MIAP staff members: full-time MIAP graduate coordinator and MIAP<br />
graduate assistants.<br />
5. Chairs the MIAP Curriculum Committee.<br />
6. Has created MIAP focus areas and related course lists. Has initiated the paper work for name<br />
change of the program, as well as creating a Master of Science degree in international<br />
agriculture program.<br />
7. Creates and submits the assessment plan for the program, and any other documentation<br />
required by the University for Program Assessment.<br />
8. Overseas the MIAP-Peace Corps option that was developed under her supervision during the<br />
fall of 2010.<br />
9. Overseas the MIAP – dual degree option with the University of Puebla in Mexico and is<br />
creating new dual degree programs.<br />
10. Maintains a current e-mail list and student directory.<br />
11. Writes funding proposals to facilitate Masters of Intl Ag internships.<br />
12. Teaches the Seminars and the internship course for MIAP students.<br />
13. Coordinates the guest speaker series related to OSU’s international activities.<br />
14. Conducts recruitment activities by speaking in classes at OSU and in other institutions and<br />
participation in career and graduate college fairs.<br />
15. Oversees the development of recruitment material and program information.<br />
16. Works with prospective students.<br />
17. Processes the admission, plans of study, and graduation paper work.<br />
18. Serves as the major advisor for MIAP students.<br />
19. Compiles and keeps updated a list of on-site and online offered courses for the upcoming<br />
semesters that are approved for the MIAP students’ POS.<br />
20. Meets with students regularly and answers questions that come through e-mail, phone, or<br />
face-to-face visits.<br />
21. Sends regular notifications regarding OSU courses, graduation requirements, RCR training,<br />
and visiting guest speakers.<br />
22. Advises students on locating funding opportunities. MIAP has no funding for its students and<br />
therefore students seek advice on how to acquire assistantships from other<br />
programs/departments. Several students have located assistantships.<br />
23. Develops Sustainable Internships. Organizes international and domestic internships,<br />
supervises students’ internship work, and sets standards for internship credits. MIAP<br />
American students are required to do an international internship, and international students<br />
often want to do an internship in the U.S. <strong>Shida</strong> has organized internship opportunities for<br />
students in Argentina, Costa Rica, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Thailand. Also<br />
