THE INSTITUTE OF TRADE MARK ATTORNEYS<br />

This booklet lists the Honorary <strong>Members</strong>, Fellows and Ordinary <strong>Members</strong>, Affiliate, Associate<br />

and Overseas <strong>Members</strong> of the Institute.<br />

Qualified & Practising Categories of <strong>Members</strong>hip:<br />

Fellows are persons who before election to Fellowship, were Ordinary <strong>Members</strong> for at least five years,<br />

and who, in the opinion of the Council, have contributed significantly to any of the objects set out in the<br />

Institute's memorandum.<br />

Ordinary <strong>Members</strong> are persons acting as Trade Mark Attorneys or Trade Mark Agents who have<br />

been admitted to membership by either:<br />

a) Passing the Institute's qualifying examinations (now the examination for entry on the<br />

Register of Trade Mark Agents)<br />

or<br />

b) Having gained some other recognised qualification in Intellectual Property and completing a<br />

declaration as to the extent of their experience in trade marks.<br />

In either case, that person must have been practising as a Trade Mark Attorney or as a Trade Mark<br />

Agent for at least two years immediately preceding his application.<br />

The names of Fellows and Ordinary <strong>Members</strong> are consolidated in a single list for convenience.<br />

Other Categories<br />

Honorary <strong>Members</strong> are those members who, no longer practise and who in the opinion of the<br />

Council have rendered outstanding services in promoting the objects of the Institute.<br />

Affiliate <strong>Members</strong> are those who have passed the foundation parts of the examination or have<br />

undertaken an equivalent course for entry on the Register of Trade Mark Agents.<br />

Associate <strong>Members</strong> do not practise as Trade Mark Attorneys or as Trade Mark Agents but have a<br />

special interest in trade marks and have been sponsored by two corporate members.<br />

Overseas <strong>Members</strong> are persons practising as or engaged in the profession or work of a trade mark<br />

agent outside the United Kingdom and who have been sponsored by two corporate members.<br />

Fellows, Ordinary <strong>Members</strong> and Corporate Honorary <strong>Members</strong> are Corporate <strong>Members</strong> having voting<br />

rights and the right to take part in the management of the Institute's affairs. All candidates for<br />

membership must satisfy the special regulations contained in the articles of association of the Institute<br />

as to the qualification of the candidate for each class of membership, and any rules made by Council.<br />

Council must be satisfied that the candidate is of good character and repute - has adequate<br />

educational attainments and generally is in all respects a suitable person to be admitted to<br />

membership.<br />

This membership list is for reference purposes only. Reproduction of the list or its use for commercial<br />

mailings or for similar purposes is unauthorised.<br />
