Foreword from the Ac! ng Country Director<br />

As an Ac! ng Country Director of <strong>ADRA</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong>, I am very pleased to sign this<br />

annual report of <strong>2009</strong>. This annual report covers a year of further success<br />

for <strong>ADRA</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong>. With the launching of the ì<strong>ADRA</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong> Balance Scorecard<br />

Strategic Plan <strong>2009</strong>-2011î in <strong>2009</strong>, we have demonstrated our commitment<br />

for a larger opera! on with mul! ple donors working through local partners<br />

and with decentralized management system and extended por" olio in # ve<br />

focus areas namely; Reproduc! ve Health, Economic Development, Good<br />

Governance, Educa! on and Emergency Management. Through a variety of<br />

projects, we worked in 33 districts of <strong>Nepal</strong> from east to far west regions<br />

reaching marginalized, disadvantaged and needy popula! on with a total<br />

expenditure of US$2.5 million. The health s! ll remained to be the largest<br />

<strong>ADRA</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2009</strong><br />

por" olio with 72% of its share in the total pie. In terms of donor mix, <strong>ADRA</strong> had funding from more than<br />

ten di& erent donors, which included EC/ECHO, UN Agencies, US Government, and <strong>ADRA</strong> Network.<br />

Some of the projects implemented last year include, Emergency projects which assisted in responding<br />

to Koshi and Kailali ' ood vic! ms and responding to the diarrhea a& ected people of Kalikot and Jajarkot,<br />

Leadership and Good Governance (LeGGo) project which helps empowering the people of Kavre district,<br />

extended reproduc! ve health projects in Mugu, Bajhang, Achham, Kalikot, Salyan, Rukum, Jajarkot and<br />

Dailekh. In addi! on, one of the largest # ve-year Eastern Region Family Planning Expansion Project (ERFPEP),<br />

funded by USAID, successfully completed in <strong>2009</strong>.<br />

<strong>ADRA</strong> con! nued sending its key sta& in <strong>ADRA</strong> Professional Leadership Ins! tute (APLI) followed by organizing<br />

the similar trainings for other <strong>ADRA</strong> sta& , the local partners and stakeholders. <strong>ADRA</strong> will con! nue to work<br />

with local implemen! ng partners and assis! ng them in quality service delivery to the bene# ciaries.<br />

<strong>ADRA</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong> observed some changes in the leadership last year. Mr. Yvan Castro, the Country Director, le* to<br />

join <strong>ADRA</strong> China and Ms. Bidya Mahat was promoted to take over the Program Director posi! on, which was<br />

now na! onalized. We were around 100+ dedicated, professional sta& and had one full ! me interna! onal<br />

volunteer from Australia working during the year. Furthermore, Mr. Simon Lewis, an Australian ci! zen, has<br />

already arrived to serve as a new Country Director of <strong>ADRA</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong>. We welcome him to our team and look<br />

forward to his successful leadership in developing <strong>ADRA</strong> <strong>Nepal</strong>.<br />

Finally, I wish to extend my sincere thanks to the sta& , volunteers, board members, partners, donors,<br />

government agencies and others who diligently work together to ensure <strong>ADRA</strong> con! nues to be a leading<br />

not-for-pro# t organiza! on in <strong>Nepal</strong>.<br />
