World Aids Day “Getting to zero”<br />

World Aids Day was observed around the world on<br />

<strong>December</strong> 1st under the United Nations AID’s strategy<br />

“getting to zero”, a vision of “zero new HIV infections,<br />

zero discrimination, <strong>and</strong> zero AIDS-related deaths.”<br />

At T&TEC, the AIDS Committee arranged a series of<br />

activities to commemorate the occasion, culminating with<br />

a breakfast meeting on <strong>December</strong> 13.<br />

Other events were held at various T&TEC offices <strong>and</strong><br />

focused on education, HIV testing <strong>and</strong> outreach.<br />

Employees, were also given the opportunity to contribute<br />

on a personal level by purchasing polo shirts. The<br />

proceeds of which, would go towards non-governmental<br />

organizations involved in HIV prevention <strong>and</strong> care.<br />

Coastal Cleanup - <strong>Tobago</strong><br />

Following the effort in <strong>Trinidad</strong> on September 17, <strong>2011</strong>,<br />

volunteers from T&TEC’s <strong>Tobago</strong> offices, on <strong>October</strong><br />

1, cleaned up Gr<strong>and</strong> Courl<strong>and</strong> Bay <strong>and</strong> Black Rock<br />

in observance of Ocean Conservancy’s 26th Annual<br />

International Coastal Cleanup.<br />

Gr<strong>and</strong> Courl<strong>and</strong> Bay was one of six beaches cleaned<br />

in the isl<strong>and</strong>. T&TEC volunteers teamed up with Digicel<br />

<strong>and</strong> members of the public to pick up <strong>and</strong> sort the trash<br />

according to plastic/cans, glass <strong>and</strong> miscellaneous<br />

items. The garbage was either recycled or disposed of<br />

appropriately.
