Our goal is to protect and nurture disadvantaged children and individuals with disabilities, to increase their prospects for self-sufficiency, to strengthen the family structures integral to their support, and to continually adapt our responses to their ever-changing needs. Dear Friends: Deep poverty is at the source of many of the challenges that the majority of people served by CGSHB face. Because of poverty, families and individuals experience tremendous stress which for some leads to isolation, drug and alcohol abuse, child maltreatment, domestic violence, and homelessness. Not only does CGSHB respond to the urgent needs for child protection and family rehabilitation, but our services also aim to help address the root cause – poverty. CGSHB looks deeply into the lives of the thousands of people we touch each year. We understand that they wish for productive and happy lives. They want to be safe, healthy, educated, gainfully employed, to have families, and to be able to fulfill their hopes and dreams. They ask for family and friends that will love and help, and not harm them. They come to us with their hands out-stretched, trusting that we will help. CGSHB, with its skilled and devoted staff and caregivers, is the agent that helps to make all of this possible. The heart of CGSHB responds with great care and compassion. Life is so busy for many of us. We rush about tending to the many demands and obligations of our lives. We are thankful when we have time to rest and reflect upon our many blessings. When we have these precious moments, we often turn to loving family and friends and to our communities to enjoy them with. At the same time, when we are rushing about, it is important to be aware that often the people next to us, perhaps sitting on the subway or bus, or passing by on the sidewalk, are in great need. Some of them are in need of the services that CGSHB can provide. CGSHB has been serving thousands of people in great need each year for the past 113 years. That translates into hundreds of thousands of people served. It’s reassuring to know that they are receiving quality and compassionate care. I invite you to come and look at some of the lives made better because of CGSHB. And, I thank all of the dedicated staff, caregivers, community partners, supporters, donors, and CGSHB’s Board of Directors for . making this good work possible.
