Message from the Dean Dear Friends of the Law School, This is my first opportunity as dean to present to you an issue of the Arkansas Law Record, and I am very pleased to do so. There is a special air of excitement at the School of Law these days. A major portion of our new construction was completed just before the semester began, and classes are now meeting in all of our new classrooms! The new facility is beautiful, stunning in fact, and it has already become a place to seek out on campus. Our remaining construction should be completed some time during the summer 2007, and we will have a major dedication ceremony during the subsequent fall semester. We will provide details later, and I hope many of you will be able to attend. The dedication will include not only the building, but also a magnificent new courtyard that we hope will serve as a fitting memorial to our beloved friend, colleague and late Dean Richard B. Atkinson. We are so grateful to our alumni and friends who have provided the financial support to make these improvements possible. I am still in my first semester as the new dean of the School of Law, and I want to thank the many of you who have offered words of encouragement. I have already begun my travels around the state to become better acquainted with the many friends of the School of Law, and I look forward to seeing you sometime soon. In this issue you will find news about the law school and about the work and accomplishments of some of our alumni. We want to offer you every opportunity to “stay connected” with us, and we hope that the Arkansas Law Record helps serve that purpose. We have also launched a new Web site at law.uark.edu. Please check it out and give us your feedback. We think there is a lot to be proud of, and we want to share it with you. We know that we can continue to be successful in our educational mission only if we also continue to receive the support of those who once walked our halls as students.
