Danish Music: The Golden Age 1800-1850

1840's. In the winter of 1846-1847 something had to be done to boost the Hippodrome in Nørregade, and so all ladies who cared to visit the
premises on January 24th 1847 were presented, upon arrival, with a neatly printed souvenir copy of a brisk new Lumbye polka, arranged for piano.
The version for orchestra was played inside by Lumbye and his musicians, but to no avail: people found the dilapidated Hippodrome too gloomy
