J. W. Wolf Retires at Montevideo<br />

THE RETIREMENT of J. W. Wolf, assistant<br />

superintendent of the H&D Division,<br />

on Feb. 18 was observed with a<br />

family-type party given by some 175<br />

employes and friends of the roalroad.<br />

Mr. Wolf, a veteran of 43 years and 10<br />

months of service, has been active in<br />

civic affairs at Montevideo since moving<br />

to H&D headquarters there in 1944.<br />

The highlights of the gala evening at<br />

the REA Hall in Montevideo on Feb. 5<br />

were a smorgasbord supper and a program<br />

of entertainment. Numbers on the<br />

program included music and dancing by<br />

youngsters who have appeared at civic<br />

functions which Mr. Wolf has sponsored<br />

in and around Montevideo, and a skit<br />

entitled "A Day in the Life of John<br />

Wolf". Engineer Frank Warner of<br />

Minneapolis was the emcee, and the part<br />

Unker of Hopkins.<br />

A surprise guest was Christ Wolf, an<br />

engineer on the D&I Division and<br />

one of Mr. Wolfs three brothers who<br />

are in railroad service. Two others are<br />

with the Ie.<br />

Mr. Wolf started with the <strong>Road</strong> as a<br />

switchtender in Chicago and had,served<br />

in various operating department positions,<br />

including trainmaster at Mitchell<br />

and Faithorn, before being appointed<br />

assistant superintendent at Montevideo.<br />

It was at Mitchell that he developed a<br />

liking for the Black Hills country, and he<br />

has retired with the intention of enjoying<br />

his future years in that locality. He<br />

and Mrs. Wolf are building a new home<br />

at Rapid City, S. D., starting Apr. 1.<br />
