<strong>the</strong> very first day that I teach Evolution, I ask <strong>the</strong>m<br />

what <strong>the</strong>ir def<strong>in</strong>ition <strong>of</strong> Evolution is.<br />

We always get all k<strong>in</strong>ds <strong>of</strong> different th<strong>in</strong>gs,<br />

monkeys, we came from monkeys and all k<strong>in</strong>ds <strong>of</strong> th<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

like that. Then I try to put to rest <strong>the</strong> first day that<br />

what we are go<strong>in</strong>g to teach is Evolution is change over<br />

time.<br />

And I basically tell <strong>the</strong>m I don't believe -- I<br />

can't care how <strong>the</strong>y believe life began. We are not<br />

go<strong>in</strong>g to hit that. We are go<strong>in</strong>g to look at once life is<br />

here, what has happened to it s<strong>in</strong>ce.<br />

I wouldn't say that I necessarily stated that<br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>ory is Creationism because I try to put that<br />

at rest <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g and not get <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> orig<strong>in</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

life type th<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Q. Okay. And that is part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> reason I asked you <strong>the</strong><br />

question. You say change over time an orig<strong>in</strong> <strong>of</strong> life.<br />

Where do you start <strong>in</strong> your presentation <strong>of</strong> Evolutionary<br />

Theory, Jen; how do you present that concept to your<br />

students?<br />

A. That conversation I just told you is basically <strong>the</strong> first<br />

day. And <strong>the</strong>n we look at -- we start with Darw<strong>in</strong> and<br />

his background, how he went on his trip and what<br />

evidence he collected and that k<strong>in</strong>d <strong>of</strong> th<strong>in</strong>g and how he<br />

came up with his <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> natural selection.
