CENTRAL EAST LOCAL HEALTH INTEGRATION NETWORK (9)
The Local Health Services Integration Act, passed in March 2006, is intended to provide an integrated health
system to improve the health of Ontarians through better access to high quality health services, coordinated health
care and effective and efficient management of the health system at the local level by Local Health Integration
Networks (LHINs). LHINs are responsible for planning, integrating and funding health care providers (hospitals,
long-term care homes, community support services, community health centres, Community Care Access Centres
and community mental health and addictions agencies) in their specific geographic areas. LHINs received funding
authority and the funding responsibility for their providers on April 1, 2007. This is the second Annual Report for
the LHINs with their full authorities.
