Tudor, the sole distributors of Leica in
South Africa, sponsored the prize for
the overall winner: an R80 000 Leica M8
digital camera and 35mm lens, built for
sophisticated and creative digital photography.
Runners up each received a
gift hamper.
The competition was judged by a panel of
highly regarded experts including: Mark
Read, Mike Shalit, John Pace, Gavin Furlonger,
Elizabeth Rees Jones and Stefania
Johnson. The judges searched for
a photo that encapsulated the ultimate
‘L’Ormarins Moment’. Chance and skill
had to be combined in capturing the
winning moment, resulting in a photo
which summarised a day at the races for
the entrants. Following a thorough judging
process of the seventeen finalists,
JM Ledderman was awarded first prize
with his winning photo of a father and
daughter at the races.

described the competition as a step in
the right direction in revitalising mass
