the prize for the overall winner:
an R80 000 Leica M8
digital camera and 35mm
lens
Tudor, the sole distributors of Leica in
South Africa, sponsored the prize for
the overall winner: an R80 000 Leica M8
digital camera and 35mm lens, built for
sophisticated and creative digital photography.
Runners up each received a
gift hamper.
The competition was judged by a panel of
highly regarded experts including: Mark
Read, Mike Shalit, John Pace, Gavin Furlonger,
Elizabeth Rees Jones and Stefania
Johnson. The judges searched for
a photo that encapsulated the ultimate
‘L’Ormarins Moment’. Chance and skill
had to be combined in capturing the
winning moment, resulting in a photo
which summarised a day at the races for
the entrants. Following a thorough judging
process of the seventeen finalists,
JM Ledderman was awarded first prize
with his winning photo of a father and
daughter at the races.
Leading Western Cape based photographer
and horseracing fundi Charles Faull
described the competition as a step in
the right direction in revitalising mass
ANTHONY STRACK
media attention on horseracing: “ I take
my hat off to Gaynor and Hanneli Rupert
for the passion and interest they show in
the sport we all love so much. This competition
is an excellent start in boosting
our reach into the mass media and the
results were shown by coverage in our
newspapers that outstripped anything
concerned and I am right behind sustaining
the momentum into next year’s
event,” he said.
