Cane and rattan furniture has come a long way since it
first arrived on the UK furnishings scene during the early
days of the conservatory trend of the 1990s.
Those early cane chairs were not
particularly stylish – and neither
were many of them built for
comfortable lounging.
However, times have changed and
cane furniture has certainly come
on in leaps and bounds.
Growing collaboration between
European furniture designers and
skilled craftsmen in the Far East
have produced a whole new
generation of high-specification
cane and rattan furnishings that
look equally at home in a formal
lounge setting as in a
conservatory or sun room.
Chris Leslie of the Busy Bee
Garden Centre in Ryde says that
more customers these days are
choosing cane furniture for their living rooms, not only for the
comfort factor, but also for its stylish look.
“The latest designs have web seating which makes them
exceedingly comfortable” says Chris, “and yet they still offer very
good value for money in comparison with ordinary lounge suites”.
Cane and rattan will always have a special place in a conservatory
setting, though, as it sits so well against a backdrop of giant
potted plants, patio tubs and natural flooring.
Busy Bee is responding to the growing popularity of cane and
rattan by taking delivery of a whole new collection from the Far
East in mid-February, bringing the range on display at the garden
centre up to 10 different styles.
These come in a whole selection of fabrics, colours and pattern
designs to cater for all types of taste and room setting.
And until the end of March, Busy Bee is making all cane and
rattan pieces available for free delivery across the Island.
Which means there’s never been a better time to sit down and
plan the look of your conservatory, sun room or lounge for the
sunnier months ahead.
