The American Association of Petroleum Geologists is the
world’s largest professional geological society with
approximately 33,811 members in 115 countries.
AAPG was formed in 1917. Its purpose is to foster the spirit
of scientific research among its members and to advance the
science of geology - particularly as it relates to petroleum,
natural gas, other subsurface fluids, mineral resources and
the environment.
To achieve these goals, AAPG publishes the Bulletin, a
monthly geologic science journal and the Explorer, a monthly
newspaper, sponsors continuing education schools, seminars
and field trips, holds conventions, publishes special geologic
books and materials, and provides geologic information to the
general public.
The membership ranges from undergraduate college
students to independent geologists and chairmen of the
boards of major corporations.
European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE)
was founded in 1951. EAGE and its successors reached out
first to geophysicists, but then as the nature of the petroleum
industry changed, it broadened its platform.
Now EAGE is a professional association for geoscientists and
engineers. It is a European based organization with a
worldwide membership providing a global network of
commercial and academic professionals to all members.
All members of EAGE are professionally involved in (or
studying) geophysics, petroleum exploration, geology,
reservoir engineering, mining and civil engineering. The
EAGE operates two divisions: the Oil & Gas Geoscience
Division and the Near Surface Geoscience Division. EAGE
organizes following activities for its members: Conferences &
Exhibitions, Workshops & Symposia, Educational Programmes
(Short Courses), Publications (monthly magazine, scientific
journals, and extensive bookshop). EAGE’s head office is
located in the Netherlands with regional offices in Moscow
and Dubai.
The next EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition will be held
in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 8 - 11 June 2009.
