With Kane County’s residential growth expected to gain even greater momentum in the next several years,
Metra responded by completing it’s UP/W line eight-mile rail extension from Geneva to Elburn. The rail
extension project included two new stations at La Fox and Elburn and a new coach yard.
The extension relieves congestion at the Geneva station, where ridership and parking demands were
increasingly constrained due to the increase of Kane County residents who were accessing this station daily.
In addition, the extension provides suburb-to-suburb access for Kane County commuters to prime
employment markets along the line.
These enhancements are part of Metra’s commitment to provide safe, reliable and affordable commuter
