Danesfi eld House Hotel (R,D) MONDAY, MAY 13 Portsmouth On the 200th anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice, see Jane Austen’s writing room in the family’s Chawton cottage and learn about the prolifi c output of 17th–19th–century British women authors at nearby Chawton library. Or travel to Portsmouth to explore the D-Day Museum, dedicated to the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Arrive in Dublin in time for a lively evening of traditional Irish music in town. Island Sky (B,L,D) THURSDAY, MAY 16 Dublin Tour the National Museum’s renowned collections, including outstanding examples of Celtic art and medieval gold. At Trinity College’s Long Library, home to an exquisite collection of illuminated manuscripts, view the legendary Book of Kells. Visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where satirist Jonathan Swift was Dean, and enjoy free time to explore the city. Or visit the Neolithic site of Newgrange and Mellifont Abbey, an important Cistercian monastery. Island Sky (B,L,D) FRIDAY, MAY 17 Belfast, Northern Ireland Belfast, the capital and economic engine of Northern Ireland, is also an important center for the arts, higher education, and business. The city su ered greatly during three decades of civil confl ict known as the Troubles, but peace has returned. Explore the cathedral and university districts, see some of the iconic Troubles murals of Shankill and Falls Road, and visit the shipyard where the Titanic was built and the impressive new Titanic Museum. Here, in 563, St. Columba established an abbey whose ruins are still visible today. Continue to Sta a for a close-up look at Fingal’s Cave, where pounding waves have sculpted basaltic rock over millions of years. Its Gaelic name means “melodious cave” and it is said to have inspired Felix Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture. Island Sky (B,L,D) SUNDAY, MAY 19 Inverewe / Loch Torridon Visit the world-renowned woodland garden at Inverewe, created by Osgood Mackenzie in 1862 and donated to the National Trust of Scotland in 1952. Back on board the ship, cruise scenic Loch Torridon, surrounded by the peaks of Beinn Alligan, Liathach, and Beinn Eighe in the Scottish Highlands.
