SCENE ONE –THE STARBUCKS’ PARTY ROOM (There could be – though not absolutely necessary – a Christmas tree in a corner. During The Introduction (Music 1) The Narrator/s and the Christmas party guests assemble. Those who are able to dance can waltz on. As the music stops, they “freeze”. Enter THE NARRATOR/S ) Narrator 1: A long time ago and far away… Narrator 2: There was a land where it snowed every 24 th of December… Narrator 3: And it snowed all through Christmas and the New Year. Narrator 4: It was a happy time for all the children, because they knew that when the first fell, there would be a marvellous Christmas party. Narrator 1: Our story begins at just such a party. Narrator 2: It was held at the home of two particular children. Narrator 3: The elder was a pretty girl called Clara. (CLARA ‘unfreezes’ and runs to the front) Clara: I’m Clara. I love sweets and nuts. I don’t like mice. Narrator 4: The younger was her brother Fred. (FRED ‘unfreezes’ and runs to the front.) Fred: And I’m Fred, her brother. I like toy soldiers. I don’t like girls. Narrator 1: They were the children of a doctor and his wife. Narrator 2: The doctor was called Albert. (ALBERT ‘unfreezes’ and joins them. He has [White] dust on the knees of his trousers) Albert: Clara, Fred, are you enjoying yourselves? Clara: Yes, papa. Fred: Can’t wait to get our presents. Narrator 3: It was the custom for children attending Christmas parties to bring the host’s children small gifts. Clara: Fred, don’t be so rude! Narrator 4: Their mother was called Isobel.
