* The names in Italics have not been foiind in, or connected with Cornwall, ty the compUer ; they
ire given on the authority of Dr. Charnock's '' Patronymica Cornu-Britaniiica," in wliich there are some
,600 names. A review of this book in the "West Briton" of July 7th, 1870, says "Many of these n.ames
ire altogether new to us, and we do not believe they were ever in use in the county." The compiler
vould not speak so positively. Many a Cornishman has wondered where he has picked up his 20,000
lames. Doubtless some of his, as well as Dr. Charnock's, are the result of bad spelling, affected orthofraphy,
arbitrary change, or even misprints ; and persons bearing some of the names may have been only
)fficially, or accidentally, connected with the county.
