Let’s Get Active! invites primary school children to
have fun and get fi t. Australian Bureau of Statistics
fi gures show that the most popular ball sports
for Australian boys and girls are (in no particular
order) basketball, netball, cricket, tennis, soccer
and Australian Rules Football. These six sports are
organised at national, state and local levels and all
have special programs for 6 to 12 year-olds, such as
the AFL’s Auskick, Basketball Australia’s Aussie Hoops
and the Football Federation of Australia’s Small-Sided
Football. Most Australian children have access to at
least one of these great sports, and we hope this
stamp issue will prompt them to run onto the fi eld,
court or oval. As well as encouraging kids to play
sport, this stamp issue is a response to the decline
in children’s general levels of fi tness over the last
two decades or so. Let’s Get Active! aims to foster
the sporting champions of the future while improving
Australian kids’ health in the process.
Let’s Get Active! comprises six stamps and a
minisheet illustrated by Victorian-based James Hart.
James’ illustration style for the issue is infl uenced
by Japanese manga comics and animation. He is an
experienced illustrator for children and has worked in
publishing, advertising and television.
