The EPA will work to improve the nation’s environmental protection practices and enhance natural resource conservation on the part of government, business, and the public. To accomplish these goals, the Agency will employ a mixture of effective inspection, enforcement and compliance assistance strategies; provide leadership and support for pollution prevention and sustainable practices; reduce regulatory barriers; and refine and apply results-based, innovative, and multi-media approaches to environmental stewardship and safeguarding human health. In addition, EPA will assist Federally-recognized tribes in assessing environmental conditions in Indian Country, and will help build their capacity to implement environmental programs. EPA also will strengthen the scientific evidence and research supporting environmental policies and decisions on compliance, pollution prevention, and environmental stewardship. 27
