The Defence Medical Services (DMS) train medical officers in secondary care specialties for practice in the Armed Forces. The Defence Postgraduate Medical Deanery is a separate and stand-alone unit whose structure is independent of, but largely based on, the NHS deanery structure to ensure compatibility with NHS. There are a number of NHS trainees with commitments to the reserve forces and for whom accessing time out of training is of key importance. However, there may be restrictions on where military trainees are able to go during periods out of training due to political considerations. C.
