Students meet Douglas Carswell at the Houses of Parliament
A group of Sixth Form History students from Tendring Technology College were introduced to government on
Monday 3 December, as they were given a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
Local MP Douglas Carswell, hosted a tour of the Palace of Westminster for the group of 30 History students.
Following the tour the students were given the opportunity to question Mr Carswell. The questions ranged from the
current national hot topics of the day, such as tax evasion by global multi-nationals and the Leveson Enquiry, to
local issues such as planning in the Tendring area.
The students greatly appreciated the opportunity to meet and discuss these important issues with Mr Carswell and
hear first hand his view on these topics. For many it was their first time engaging with local and national political
issues and they found it fascinating to hear a politician’s view first hand, on topics they felt were important to
them.
Furthermore, the tour was many of the students’ first visit to the country’s seat of power and one they will never
forget. They were struck by the realisation that such an ornate and historic building still remained a crucially
important cog in our country’s government.
