In compliance with a dedamies to us the subscribers Justice directed from the honorable Court of Law in<br />
Hillsborough District State of North Carolina we have caused to come before us at the house Jacob<br />
Miller, Mr. Richard Sheckelford, Mr. Solomon Fuller, Mrs. Sarah Roberts This 11th day of February 1807<br />
Mr. Richard Sheckelford being sworn as the Law directs saith about twenty-nine years ago he purchased<br />
a Negro Woman by the name of Bess of William Roberts Sen'r & borrowed five pounds of money from<br />
Haman Miller to make up full payment for said Negro & farther this deponent saith that he told said<br />
Haman Miller that he had purched said Negro Bess & that said Haman Miller heard that said Haman<br />
Miller had any Clame or Mortgage of said Negro for som years after he this Deponent had purched her.<br />
Sworn to & subscribed before us this 11th day of February 1807.<br />

Mr. Soloman Fuller being sworn as the law directs sayeth that about nineteen or twenty years ago there<br />
was a precept put into his hands by Haman Miller & he levied it on a Negroe Girl by the name of Jude in<br />
the hands of the widow Roberts wife of William Roberts dec'd & sold to satisfy a debt of sd Wm Roberts<br />
dec'd & Haman Miller purchas'd her & he believ'd She was in the Mortgage that Miller had Sworn to &<br />
Subscribed before us this 11th day of February 1807<br />

Mr. Peter Roberts being sworn as the Law directs sayeth that on oath that about 22 or 23 years ago he<br />
understood that Haman Miller had a Mortgage against William Roberts for a number of Negroes & he<br />
heard Haman Miller tell s'd Roberts that he now had it in his power to Settle the Matter on good Terms &<br />
that he had Better do it as he was getting old & perhaps said he some time or other the Bond may Come<br />
& I shall have to Distress your Children this mortgage was given by William Roberts Sen'r to Haman Miller<br />
& Sam'l Roberts for Standing Security for s'd William Roberts for a Sum of money to a Scotch Merchant<br />
who then Lived in the State of Virginia but his name he does not recollect & the s'd Miller told the s'd<br />
William Roberts If he would give him two hundred pounds he would Clear him of the Scotch Merchant &<br />
he saw William Roberts after agreeing to pay the two hundred pounds pay down part of the money about<br />
fifty pounds & he saw money paid at other times in Consequence of s'd mortgage or Deed of trust but<br />
how much he does not recollect but he heard Haman Miller say that he had received all of the money &<br />
that he heard William Roberts ask him for a receipt in full of all Demands of Every kind & that s'd Miller<br />
told s'd William Roberts to write a receipt & that he the s'd Miller would Sign it & s'd Roberts wrote a<br />
receipt & that s'd Haman Miller signed s'd receipt & that he this deponant was a witness to the same &<br />
then he heard Haman Miller some time after that Direct William Roberts how to dispose of the negroes<br />
that he gave to Isham Fuller & wife & he Done agreeable to his Directions in giving them away & further<br />
this Deponant says that he saw Haman Miller Deliver to his Father William Roberts the above mentioned<br />
Mortgage & that he heard Haman Miller Say that he was amply Satisfied for S'd Mortgage & further says<br />
that after the death of William Roberts he saw the S'd mortgage in among his Fathers papers & also the<br />
above mentioned Receipt & further this deponant Sayeth that he heard Sam'l Roberts tell William Roberts<br />
that he was amply Satisfied respecting the mortgage above mentioned & this Deponant says that he is<br />
neither gainer nor looser in the Event of the Sute wherein Haman Miller & Samuel Roberts are plantiff &<br />

Mrs. Sarah Roberts being sworn as the law directs Sayeth on her oath that she heard her husband<br />
William Roberts Sen'r Demand of Haman Miller a mortgage or Deed of trust which her husband William
