faculty in 1986, Professor Wilkins has written extensively<br />
on the legal profession, with an emphasis on<br />
the experiences of black lawyers. He is the author<br />
of The Black Bar: The Legacy of Brown v. Board of<br />
Education and the Future of Race and the American<br />
Legal Profession, and co-author of Problems in<br />
Professional Responsibility for a Changing Profession<br />
with Professor Andrew Kaufman. Professor<br />
Wilkins clerked on the U.S. Supreme Court for<br />
Justice Thurgood Marshall. Professor Wilkins spoke<br />
about the historical and continuing importance of<br />
minority bar associations and the role black lawyers<br />
played in desegregating the United States.<br />
SHB was the only gold-level sponsor for the<br />
banquet. Firm attendees included Guled Adam,<br />
Mischa Buford Epps, Willie Epps, Jon Gray, Michelle<br />
Searcy, Leonard Searcy, and Greg Wu. Scott Kaiser<br />
served as the DJ for the after-party.<br />
SHB Supports Just the Beginning Foundation<br />
Scholarship Banquet<br />

“Just the Beginning<br />
Foundation” (JTBF) was<br />
founded as a not-for-profit<br />
organization of judges, lawyers,<br />
and other citizens who are<br />
dedicated to improving the legal<br />
system, preserving the history,<br />
and honoring the legacy of<br />
African-Americans in the federal<br />
judiciary. The JTBF continues its<br />
mission by offering pipeline programs directly aimed<br />
at inspiring young students and increasing diversity<br />
in the legal profession and judiciary. In September<br />
<strong>2010</strong>, JTBF held its annual fundraiser in Washington,<br />
D.C. where SHB was a sponsor along with many of<br />
our clients, including the Coca-Cola Company and<br />
Wal-Mart. Partners Adam Moore and Jim Eiszner<br />
attended this event on behalf of SHB.<br />

Charity Golf Tournament<br />

On September 17, <strong>2010</strong>, San<br />
Francisco Partners Pat Gregory<br />
and Randy Haimovici braved<br />
the fog and the tough Harding<br />
Park golf course to raise funds<br />
for the Bar Association of San<br />
Francisco’s <strong>Diversity</strong> Pipeline<br />
Programs. A good time was had<br />
by all and both Pat and Randy<br />
enjoyed the chance to meet<br />
colleagues and support BASF’s diversity efforts.<br />
BASF Executive Director Dan Burkhardt<br />
thanked <strong>Shook</strong> for its varied, overall commitment<br />
to BASF that includes supporting the Gala Dinner,<br />
Judges Reception, the Foundation Board, and the<br />

SHB Recruits at Annual Heartland <strong>Diversity</strong><br />
Job Fair<br />

SHB interviewed at the<br />
Heartland <strong>Diversity</strong> Job Fair<br />
on Saturday, August 7, <strong>2010</strong>.<br />
This year’s job fair included 15<br />
employers and 90 students from<br />
schools as geographically diverse<br />
as the University of Mississippi,<br />
University of Minnesota,<br />
Brigham Young, Boston College,<br />
and University of Kentucky,<br />
among others. In total, 36 law<br />
schools from around the nation were represented. SHB<br />
interviewed 37 students total and invited three 2L<br />
students and two 3L students for call-back interviews.<br />
SHB was a bronze-level sponsor this year.
