Dear Friends, Seventy years ago, 128 students gathered in a converted elementary school for the first classes at Everett Junior College. Today, Everett Community College serves more than 20,000 students at seven locations throughout Snohomish County and online. EvCC’s alumni and operations contribute $301.8 million to Snohomish County’s economy, according to a recent economic impact study. Much has changed at the college during the past seven decades. In the past year alone, we opened a new Student Fitness Center, expanded the Parks Student Union, received approximately $6.8 million in annual grant funding, and graduated a record number of students. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to helping students achieve their educational dreams. At EvCC, students are challenged to explore, create, learn, and lead with help from faculty and staff dedicated to their success, just like they were in 1941. Back then, most students were focused on earning two-year degrees. Today, EvCC students can earn their four-year degrees on the college’s main campus through the University Center of North Puget Sound, which offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees through eight partner schools. In 2010-11, enrollment at the University Center, which will transition to Washington State University leadership in 2014, grew by 25 percent to almost 600 students. Throughout the years, college leaders have faced a variety of financial challenges. This year, EvCC faculty, staff, and administrators are working hard to serve an increasing number of students with fewer state resources. EvCC enrollment grew 13 percent during the past five years, while the percentage of the college budget funded by the state declined 19 percent since 2008-09. Through careful management of our financial resources, we are continuing to offer excellent education to train students for highdemand jobs. The college is especially grateful for the support of the community, dedicated volunteers, EvCC Foundation donors, businesses and industry as we work to keep higher education affordable for the next generation of students. I invite you join us in celebrating Everett Community College’s first 70 years and be a part of providing outstanding education to our community for many decades to come. Sincerely, Dr. David Beyer President
