FORDHAM IN <strong>GRANADA</strong><br />
Based at Universidad de Granada’s Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM), the programs provide an exceptional opportunity<br />
for students to experience and to learn about Spanish culture in context. Distinguished professors from <strong>Fordham</strong> <strong>University</strong> and<br />
Universidad de Granada deliver quality instruction in small class sizes. Individualized tutoring is offered to students to aid in their<br />
adjustment to the new academic setting. Participation in a number of cultural events, excursions, and trips conducted by<br />
professors with expertise in literature and the arts will complement the rigorous course work.<br />
SPRING SEMESTER PROGRAM OVERVIEW<br />
DESCRIPTION<br />
Students are required to take fi ve courses while in Granada. One of the fi ve courses, “Spain<br />
in Context” is taught by the <strong>Fordham</strong> in Granada Director, Dr. Rafael Lamas. This course is<br />
open exclusively to program participants. The other courses will be taken at Universidad de<br />
Granada’s Centro de Lenguas Modernas with the option to take up to two in one of the<br />
Universidad de Granada’s many departments (Facultades) depending on the student’s<br />
academic interest and language profi ciency. Participants may pursue courses from among the<br />
following disciplines:<br />
Art History Culture<br />
Economics Geography<br />
History Language<br />
Literature Politics<br />
Sociology<br />
Students may also take a course at the Conservatorio de Música de Granada.<br />
LANGUAGE IMMERSION<br />
Upon arrival and prior to the start university courses, participants will engage in an intense<br />
language immersion program.<br />
TERTULIAS<br />
Once a week students and Dr. Lamas will host a prominent Spanish fi gure (artist, writer,<br />
musician, professional) and discuss the various developments within that person’s fi eld. Past<br />
guests included artist José Freixanes, writer Andrés Neuman and Laura García Lorca director of<br />
the Federico García Lorca Foundation.<br />
