Lease Extension Our school is growing. Adding a new class every year means our space requirements also increase constantly. DSM has now extended its lease agreement. The new arrangement gives the school the opportunity to subsequently grow into the upstairs classrooms of the south wing of the St Joseph's site. The first stage of growth includes two classrooms and two smaller rooms. One of the classrooms will house our oldest students from next year. During the first half of 2013 we envisage to fit out one of the smaller rooms as a second library (also for older students). A further two class rooms will be added to the DSM lease area in 2015. The lease also includes provisions to rent further land to house a dedicated sports ground. Thank you to everybody in the school community for the excellent work to date helping to turn these spaces into beautiful classrooms! Florian Dehne Visit from German Central Agency for Schools Abroad The Melbourne cup weekend brought visitors from all over the world to our shores including officials from the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) to Deutsche Schule Melbourne! The agency works closely with the German States and Federal Department of Foreign Affairs to provide assistance and support to more than 140 German schools all over the world. This support ranges from educational consultancy services to secondment of staff and financial support. The DSM was honoured by a visit from Dr Fischer, ZfA Coordinator for our region, Mr Wegmann, Regional Coordinator for South East Asia and Mr Knorr from the German Embassy in Canberra. The delegation was welcomed by Florian Dehne (DSM Chairman), Sandra Worrow (Head Teacher) and Barbara Walsh (Business Manager). After a tour of the school and its surroundings, our visitors met with teachers and board members. They were able to gain a better understanding of the school's educational model and operations. After a morning tea the conversation continued, focusing on the school's future development and growth. Our visitors were most impressed by the school's robust planning efforts and realistic expectations, which were mirrored in the school's growth in the past and future enrolment trends. The visitors left impressed by the school's development to date and indicated that they wanted to investigate further ways to support the school in the future. Barbara Walsh FROEBEL is coming to Melbourne soon! Plans to open a first-class bilingual early learning center for children from 6 weeks to 6 years, colocated with DSM, are progressing. A lease has been signed and building works are being planned at the moment. FROEBEL aims to open the center towards the end of 2013. Members can also use the German/English library of DSM and are invited to our academic and cultural events. Annual membership fees are $27.50 for one person or $55 for the whole family.
