PARENT INFORMATION HANDBOOK SQUAD SWIMMING PROGRAM SWIMMING The Swimming Program is conducted by Mrs Julie Dyring. Julie has many years experience both as an Olympic swimmer and as a Coach at all levels of ability. A snapshot of her background follows: Former Australian Champion Olympian 1968 Mexico City Coached numerous Victorian and Australian Champions Coach of Commonwealth Games and Olympic medalists Life Member Australian Swim Coaches Association (Vic Branch) Manager, Australia Swim Team 1991-1996 including Olympic Games, Atlanta 1996 Gold Level Accredited Coach The goal for the Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak Swimming Program is to create an atmosphere where all swimmers have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our primary focus for all squads is correct stroke technique in all four swimming strokes. MISSION To build a strong aquatics program into the already broad sports and fitness program at Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak. To maximise the opportunities for all students and the wider Loreto family to partake on a wide range of aquatic activities and to provide the highest quality teaching and learning. SQUAD DESCRIPTIONS NIPPER (1 or 2 sessions weekly) Designed for swimmers to progress from Learn to Swim classes. Stroke development is the primary focus of this squad. Swimmers should be able to swim 50 metres Freestyle and Backstroke and Breaststroke with correct technique. DEVELOPMENT (2 or more sessions weekly) For swimmers who are competent in Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke and are designed for swimmers to progress to either competitive swimming or swimming for fitness. Technique is still a major factor but training regimes are also introduced to increase their fitness and to develop correct training habits. CHALLENGE (minimum 2 and up to 4 sessions weekly) Designed for swimmers who wish to swim for fitness, school swimming, surf lifesaving, etc. Training for this squad will increase in distance and intensity but continue to develop correct technique at a more advanced level. TARGET SQUAD (minimum 3 up to 5 sessions weekly, one must be morning session excluding Saturday) This squad is for swimmers who have a desire to compete and are aiming for state qualifying times or young swimmers who have achieved State qualifying times. This squad will often train with State/National Target Squad. Some dry land work will be introduced at this level. STATE/NATIONAL SQUAD (minimum 6 up to 10 sessions weekly) This squad is for dedicated swimmers who are working towards National competition. Gym workouts are part of this squad‟s program and should complement the pool workouts. A commitment to competition and training is essential to be part of this squad. Page -49-
PARENT INFORMATION HANDBOOK SWIMMING STATE/NATIONAL and TARGET SQUADS These squads consist of committed swimmers and give them the opportunity to achieve their personal goals. Working with a team and learning to create a positive, cohesive team environment is a valuable part of these squads. All swimmers in these squads should be members of Loreto Aquatic. AQUATIC CLUB LORETO AQUATIC is a competitive swimming club based at Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak and is affiliated with Swimming Victoria Inc. Affiliation with Swimming Victoria enables members to take part in competitions at all levels from Interclub, District, State and National. An annual membership fee is charged to be registered with Swimming Victoria. The administration of the club is a parent body which provides contact between the Club and Swimming Victoria, raises funds for equipment and encourages other parents to be involved. Members of Loreto Aquatic have club uniforms which are worn at all competitions. All enquiries for this activity should be made with Aquatic Manager, Coaches or the President of Loreto Aquatic.
