Purchased item protection
To avoid revenue erosion, you should protect purchased items from unauthorised distribution. How
you protect items depends on the delivery model you use:
– Nokia protected: If you build in-app purchase items into your app, Nokia can provide OMA DRM
2.0 protection. OMA DRM 2.0 is a Digital Rights Management technology designed by the Open
Mobile Alliance to control the distribution and use of digital media. When you submit your packaged
app to Nokia Publish, Nokia Publish automatically unpacks your app, applies DRM encryption to
resource files stored in a pre-defined project folder, signs the app, then repackages the app for
distribution. We strongly recommend DRM protection for all in-app purchase items that are built
into your app.
– Not Nokia protected: If you deliver in-app purchase items from your own back-end server, you
protect these items yourself, using your own methods. The DRM protection described in the
remainder of this topic applies only if you use the Nokia protected model.
When a consumer acquires an app and makes an in-app purchase, the consumer device interacts with
Nokia Store and its License Key Manager as follows:
