About the Artist
Ruth Laredo was born and raised in Detroit, studied with Rudolf Serkin at
Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music, and made her New York orchestral debut
with Leopold Stokowski and the American Symphony Orchestra. Her appearance
with Pierre Boulez and the New York Philharmonic during the 1974-75 season was
described by critics as "sensationaL" Performances with other major U.S. orchestras,
including those of Cleveland, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Washington, D.C.,
have established her as one of America's foremost young pianists. She is a frequent
guest artist at the Marlboro Festival, and has also performed at the Aspen, Spoleto,
Israel, and Caramoor Festivals. In addition, her musical versatility has led to performances
of an enormous amount of chamber music repertoire.
Miss Laredo has won wide recognition as a recording artist. She has championed
the music of Alexander Scriabin, making history with the world's first performances
and prizewinning recordings of his piano sonatas in their entirety. She is currently
