Organizations depend on their laptop and desktop PCs to be up and running in order to maintain
productivity and achieve their business objectives. While there are many tools available to
remotely manage client systems that are powered on (in-band) with a responsive operating
system (in-service), only recently have systems been available that can be managed from a
powered off state (out-of-band).
Out-of-band management support for clients was originally implemented in a proprietary manner.
Newer systems, however, support a new generation of client management open standards that
includes out-of-band management for all clients. Driven by the Distributed Management Task
Force (DMTF) and industry leaders, the Desktop and mobile Architecture for System Hardware
(DASH) standard has paved the way for tools and technologies that support interoperability
and consistency among client system management solutions, especially in remote, out-of-band,
and out-of-service situations.
By deploying client systems that support DASH, businesses can simplify their system management
process and manage a mixed environment in a more consistent manner; this reduces IT complexity
and simplifies administrative tasks, leading to lower overall costs for managing the client fleet. IT
departments should thus consider systems that support the DMTF DASH standard instead of
proprietary systems in order to maintain vendor choice and help reduce maintenance costs by
enabling interoperable management.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD), a leader in helping create open standards for client
management, continues to be an active contributor to the DASH standard and works closely with
industry partners implementing DASH solutions. AMD client platforms that support DASH — and are
thus cost-effective, easy-to-manage business systems — are available now. Many of the most
popular management consoles also support DASH, making AMD DASH client systems ready to
deploy in real-world business environments. This brochure shows how AMD platforms and DASH
help solve the most critical use cases for out-of-band client management and help enable business
productivity while keeping control of IT costs.
