Horsemen’s Information
(As of January 2012, Japan Racing Association)
SELECTION OF RUNNERS
Candidate horses for the race will be assessed on their relative merits by
the JRA Selection Committee. The JRA has the sole authority and discretion
in determining the selection, and the decision of the JRA shall be final. For
invitational races such as Japan Cup and Japan Cup Dirt, the JRA will not
only take into account the relative merits of each horse, but will seek to
spread continental representation to include the main racing countries of the
Americas, Europe, Australasia and Asia. Other essential factors for the
selection will be the confirmation of intention to participate and the ability of
the horse to meet the schedule of timing necessary for pre-race quarantine.
In the event the horses selected by the JRA withdraw, the JRA reserves the
right to select as a replacement an overseas reserved horse which can
complete the necessary formalities and logistics in time to participate in the
race. Should you wish to nominate your horse for more than one race,
please indicate on the application form which race is your first choice.
Notes regarding preliminary nominations:
1. For the Japan Cup and the Japan Cup Dirt, we can only accept
preliminary nominations from the horses that have run in races in
countries listed in Part I of the International Cataloguing Standards.
2. For international jump races, we can only accept preliminary nominations
from the horses that have run in races listed in Part IV of the International
Cataloguing Standards.
CONDUCT OF RACING
1. Declaration to Run
Trainers are required to declare their horses to run at the prescribed time for
each race. Declaration forms will be provided by the officials of the
Racecourse to each Trainer. It is essential that any special equipment to be
carried by the horse is also declared on this form. If a horse is to run with
blinkers, a declaration that it is to do so must be made. When a horse has
been declared to run with blinkers, they shall be worn, and when no
declaration of blinkers, they must not be worn by the horse during the race.
However, this does not apply in the event that the stewards of the meeting
deem there is a compelling reason.
*The use of Nasal Strips is not permitted in horse racing in Japan. Some
equipment may not be allowed to be used without prior permission and
therefore, please contact JRA stewards in advance.
