Charles L. ANDERSON, aged 60, a former resident of the Leiters Ford neighborhood died at<br />

his home, 1212 East Donald street, South Bend, at 3 o’clock Wednesday morning. Death was due<br />

to a heart ailment and followed an illness of four months.<br />

Following are excerpts from an obituary on Mr. Anderson which was carried in a South Bend<br />

newspaper yesterday:<br />

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Nellie SHADEL ANDERSON, whom he married in 1914 in<br />

Leiters Ford, Ind.; a daughter, Marjorie L. ANDERSON, and a son, Robert H. ANDERSON, both<br />

of South Bend; a brother, Max ANDERSON, Leiters Ford, and two sisters, Miss Ida<br />

ANDERSON, of Rochester, and Mrs. Arthur WOOLINGTON Leiters Ford.<br />

Friends may call at the residence until 11 a.m. Saturday and then in the L. W. McGann funeral<br />

home until the funeral there at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Rev. J. A. HOLMES, D.D. pastor of First<br />

Methodist church, will officiate and burial will be in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial park.<br />

Mr. Anderson was born January 28, 1880, in Leiters Ford, and came here 23 years ago from<br />

Delong, Ind. He was employed by the American District Telegraph company. He was a member of<br />

the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Independent Order of Foresters.<br />

Funeral services for George STROTHERS who died in a hospital at Logansport this morning<br />

will be held from the Grossman Funeral Home in Argos at 3 p.m. Friday. Rev. R. W. KNIGHT<br />

will officiate and burial will be made in the Maple Grove cemetery. <strong>The</strong> deceased was a native of<br />

Jasonville. He is survived by three daughters one of these Mrs. Earl ZEHNER of Argos.<br />

Friday, March 22, <strong>1940</strong><br />

Denver, Ind., March 22 -- Mrs. Alta Mary STOCKDALE, 61, passed away at 12:40 o’clock<br />

Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Glen Thoennes of this city, following an<br />

illness of several weeks.<br />

Born in Tipton on July 18, 1878, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. ADAIR.<br />

Her husband preceded her in death 14 years ago. Mrs. Stockdale was a member of the Sand Bank<br />

Christian church, and resided in this city for the past 25 years.<br />

Surviving besides the daughter, Mrs. Glen THOENNES, are a daughter, Mrs. Garland<br />

CUNNINGHAM, Denver; three sons, Fred [STOCKDALE] of Kokomo; James [STOCKDALE]<br />

of Mexico; and Elvie [STOCKDALE] of South Bend; and 11 grandchildren.<br />

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs.<br />

Thoennes. Burial is to be made in the Tipton cemetery. <strong>The</strong> body is at the Kline funeral home in<br />

this city.<br />

Mrs. May DRAKE, 56, of Argos, passed away Thursday evening at the home of her son,<br />

Donald DRAKE, of Indianapolis, where she was visiting since last Sunday. Death was attributed<br />

to a heart attack. Mrs. Drake had been in ill health for the past two years.<br />

May [READER], daughter of Lorenan and Lottie READER, was born May 20th, 1883, at<br />

Miami, Ind. She had resided in Argos for a long number of years. Her husband, James DRAKE,<br />

preceded her in death on November 3rd, 1939. <strong>The</strong> deceased was a member of the Argos<br />

Methodist church.<br />

<strong>The</strong> survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Velma McCORMICK, and the son, Donald, both of<br />

Indianapolis.<br />

Funeral services will be held at the Argos Methodist church Sunday afternoon, three
