A Word from Tournament Chairperson Lynanne Bolton
As our Regional draws to a close, on behalf of Unit 198 allow me to thank
you once again for coming to play bridge with us in beautiful Bermuda. I
also wish to thank the many local volunteers who supported the planning and
execution of the tournament.
If you have enjoyed yourself, please tell your friends and come back often! We
shall continue to update our website (www.bermudaregional.com) regularly for
your information and convenience. Have a safe trip home. We hope to see you
again next year!
Thanks from the Editor
My wife and I greatly enjoyed being part of this wonderful Regional.
Although I have in the past chaired three regionals in District 12 and
prepared Daily Bulletins for each, as the number of events proliferates
the volume of work has increased commensurately, while passing
years have slowed me a step or three. Thanks to everyone who
provided me with interesting deals and other material worthy of
publication, and to our Bermuda hosts for tolerating my American
orthography (“color” instead of “colour”, etc.).
Never have I encountered such a well-oiled machine as the Bermuda
Tournament Committee. I have been dumbstruck watching Judy Bussell managing the partnership desk,
Wendy Gray doing press liaison, Alan Douglas and Sheena Rayner administering prize awards, and Steve
Ball, Jane Clipper, Donna Leitch, and Lisa Rhind working hospitality. David Ezekiel headed one of the
most popular morning shows I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing. Camaraderie and support were
abundantly furnished by Jim Leitch, Gordon Bussell, Jonathan Clipper and John Rayner, and I was
privileged to interact with them.
As well, I’d particularly like to thank Ruby Douglas for being such an efficient Production Manager (at
hours of the day too enormously obscene to print here), and Jack Rhind for his technical assistance—I had
not quite realized what a Luddite I am.
Of course, a special acknowledgment goes to my lovely wife Jacqueline, who thankfully nudged
and nattered me to work out most of the computer kinks before we arrived, then ably assisted me
as I did my poor man’s Colombo-Matthew Brady routine of tracking down and photographing
winners and new LMs. She managed to keep my lone remaining brain cell more or less
functional. As an amanuensis, overseer, and proofreader, she is utterly nonpareil. Partners and
teammates who achieved much better results with my predecessor get special thanks.
And most especially, thanks to Lynanne Bolton for recruiting me to be part of this wonderful and
unique regional!
