Its I/O ports function like an extension to the notebook PC and you can access WANs, printers, DVD/CD-ROMs, etc., in the vehicle from the fex21. 1Vehicle-Based Notebook PC & Remote Mobile Testing Device With an Itronix notebook PC docked in the service van, technicians can wirelessly push or pull data to and from dispatch and technical assistance centers via wide-area wireless networks, and simultaneously communicate with a test device via Bluetooth. This approach adapts to a wide range of wireless options (including wide-area networks, 802.11b, and Bluetooth), and can be enhanced with in-vehicle GPS, printers, and other notebook PC peripherals. Customer and job information can be wirelessly sent to the test device and test results can be wirelessly sent back to the Itronix notebook PC for integration with your main database. 2Vehicle “Server” with Handheld Remote Terminal This solution wirelessly connects the technician with dispatch and technical service centers via an Itronix notebook PC cradled in the vehicle. The legacy, mapping, and complex diagnostic applications running on the notebook are ”protected“ wirelessly via 802.11b WLAN for 100+ yards to a small, lightweight Itronix fex21 handheld computer. The technician “controls” the notebook remotely with the fex21. The fex21 can also communicate with and “control” the test device via Bluetooth, ensuring that the right data is gathered, analyzed properly, and communicated flawlessly back to your main database (the test device does not require a display or keyboard in this solution). The fex21 can also provide the dial tone access for the notebook PC when the technician is out of coverage and needs a landline connection. 3Handheld “Base” Device (no notebook PC) The Itronix handheld fex21 can serve as a “base” unit which can be docked in the vehicle for access to peripherals such as GPS and printers, and removed for remote-from-vehicle use (a notebook PC is not required in this solution). Wireless communication takes place between the fex21 and the dispatch/technical service center via wide-area networks, while shortrange wireless is supported with Bluetooth to peripheral devices including test instruments (the test device does not require a display and keyboard in this solution). The Itronix handheld “base” solution gives the technician the option of using the small, lightweight computer in-vehicle, or remotely, ensuring the most efficient use of time and resources. www.itronix.com
