Cross Country Heritage
With 14 first or second place NCAA trophies earned
during the course of the last five cross country and
track seasons, another Golden Era for TrackTown USA is
undeniably underway, due in no small part to the vision and
leadership of two men - Vin Lananna, Oregon’s nationally
renowned associate athletic director, and head coach Robert
Johnson.
Their architectural work has produced powerhouse cross
country and track and field teams once again in TrackTown
USA, and cemented the region’s reputation as the home of
the nation’s elite runners.
Concurrently, the magnanimous haul of five NCAA titles,
plus nine more second-place finishes in the span of five
academic years has reenergized the passionate TrackTown
fan base in the Eugene-Springfield community.
That list includes NCAA titles in men’s cross country (2008),
men’ indoor track (2009) and women’s indoor track (2010-
11-12), plus runner-up finishes in men’s cross country (2009),
women’s cross country (2008), men’s outdoor track (2009-10),
Trophy Town, USA
women’s outdoor track (2009-10-11-12) and men’s indoor
track (2010).
The Ducks will open a new cross country season Sept. 1 at
the Pier Park Invitational in Portland, Ore.
Invitational on Sept. 29 at Springfield Country Club. The
seventh annual Dellinger Invitational will be the lone home
meet for the Ducks in 2012.
Oct. 13 is a big weekend with a trip to the Pre-Nationals
meet in Louisville, Ky., and a first look at the course that will
host the
After a trip to Corvallis for the Beaver Classic on Oct.
Conference meet Oct. 27 in Santa Clarita, Calif.
The the teams travel to Seattle for the NCAA West Region
