Alibag is a little town on the western coast of India, known as the
Shivaji, the Maratha warrior. Now it is a desirable weekend retreat
Chaul. Originally a port that serviced the trade of the Sultanate
Dynasties of the Deccan (15 th -16 th centuries) it later became an
important Portuguese port. In 1740 Chaul passed to the local
Maratha rulers. The walls and churches of this Portuguese
ruins along the western coast of India. A true pleasure of ruins.
most impressive sea fort. It was built by the Sidis who were
Abyssinians in the service of the Malik Ambar. Malik Ambar, also of
Abyssinian origin, was the famous general of the Nizam Shahis of
Ahmadnagar who fought against the invading Mughal armies from
the north.
