L.W. With the Annual Symposium taking place this coming
November in Washington, D.C., do you have any other
comments or insight that you can share with members of
The Daguerreian Society?
C.J. I hope that society members will visit the Library
when they are in town for the symposium. I would be
happy to show the Library’s daguerreotypes to members
by appointment. Please keep in mind that the Prints and
Photographs Division is not open on weekends. Public
tours of the Library’s Jefferson Building are offered Monday
through Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30
p.m., and 3:30 p.m. (although there is no 3:30 p.m. tour
on Saturdays). These free tours are open to individuals
and small groups with no more than 10 participants. No
reservations or tickets are required.
L.W. Carol, thank you for all the support that you have given
The Daguerreian Society over the years. And also, thank
you for the generous invitation that you have extended to
our members to visit the Library of Congress and see the
national treasurers that you manage and care for.
Note:
An excellent publication that covers the pictorial collection
of the Library of Congress is:
Eyes of the Nation: A Visual History of the United States by
Vincent Virga and the Curators of the Library of Congress,
Historical commentary by Alan Brinkley (Alfred A. Knopf,
New York, 1997).
