3, 4 1 Λ, and ΊV2. The Leafs have been<br />

active in their community, being among the<br />

founders of a new Jewish Reform Temple,^<br />

the first Jewish temple in their town. Martin<br />

had a close defeat in village elections,<br />

and Louise says they really enjoyed the<br />

experience of campaigning. Martin is in ^a<br />

law partnership with two <strong>Cornell</strong>ians, Ellis<br />

Deull and Robert Kurzman, LLB '57. Kurzman's<br />

wife is Carol Ellis.<br />

Daniel Richard Martin returned to Scarsdale<br />

(148 Johnson Rd.) from a two-month<br />

business trip to Peru and Mexico on behalf<br />

of his management consulting firm, Mc-<br />

Kinsey & Co. Bob was fortunate in being<br />

able to take his wife and son along to enjoy<br />

the South American summer while the<br />

rest of us were battling the. snow drifts.<br />

after four years there—is Thomas Oleson,<br />

'58 MS—Agusto Castillo, Facultad Veterinary,<br />

Barranco Ap 78, Lima, Peru, is<br />

chief of the clinical pathology laboratory<br />

there. He suggests that the <strong>Cornell</strong> Daily<br />

Sun be sent to <strong>Cornell</strong> Clubs abroad, perhaps<br />

under the aegis of clubs in this country.<br />

'58 PhD—George E. Spencer, a community<br />

development specialist for the US<br />

Agency for International Development, has<br />

been named a Peace Corps associate director<br />

in the Philippines. A former school<br />

teacher, he will be involved in community<br />

action projects in the islands.<br />

'58 PhD—John M. Fenϊey of USAID/<br />

UAGOS, Dept. of State, Washington, D.C.,<br />

writes that he is "chief of extension branch,<br />

USAID mission to Nigeria. Recently moved<br />

from agricultural adviser (area) for Western<br />

Nigeria in Ibadan, to present position in<br />

country's capital city of Lagos. Oldest<br />

daughter, Janice, entered U of California at<br />

Santa Barbara last fall. Son Rick is enjoying<br />

sunny Spain in the llth grade at US Air<br />

Force High School in Madrid. Youngest<br />

daughter Molissa in 8th grade at The<br />

Harold G. Hermes, 41 Clinton Ave.,<br />

Maplewood, N.J., was recently decorated<br />

with the US Air Force Combat Readiness<br />

Medal at Lakenheath RAF Station, England.<br />

Harold was awarded the medal for four<br />

years of professional performance as a<br />

combat crew member. He is now assigned<br />

to Lakenheath with the US Air Forces in<br />

Europe, the primary combat-ready air element<br />

of NATO's defense forces.<br />

President Johnson has promoted David<br />

A. Engel, whose mother lives at 6040<br />

Boulevard East, New York, to class 5 in<br />

the US Foreign Service. Dave, who speaks<br />

French and Vietnamese, is stationed in<br />

the American Embassy in Saigon with the<br />

Department of State as an intelligence research<br />

specialist.<br />

The U of Rochester has received a grant<br />

of $11,500 from the US Office of Education<br />

for the development of a basic reader<br />

in Hindi, and the project will be directed<br />

by Richard M. Harris, who lives at 59 Fair<br />

Oaks Ave., with his wife and son. The<br />

reader will contain some 20 selections, including<br />

short stories and historical writings.<br />

Fred H. Andresen has recently been<br />

named animal health product manager of<br />

the agriculture division of Charles Pfizer &<br />

Co., 235 E. 42nd St., New York. Prior to<br />

this, he was assistant product manager for<br />

the animal health line.<br />

Chester R. Fox has been appointed group<br />

leader of the process engineering section<br />

of Laboratory 50 at Rohm & Haas Co.,<br />

Bristol, Pa. Chet began his employment<br />

in the process engineering department of<br />

the Philadelphia plant, where he remained<br />

until his recent promotion. Chet, his wife,<br />

and two children live at 3105 Manor Rd.,<br />

Pkwy., New York, is employed by Arthur<br />

Young & Co., CPA's in New York. After<br />

3V2 years in the Navy as a flight officer, he<br />

attended the Columbia Graduate School of<br />

Business and received his MBA.<br />

Mel Lieberman is a postdoctoral fellow<br />

of the US Public Health Service, National<br />

Heart Institute. Mel, wife Shelli, and son<br />

Eric have relocated in Rua Prudente de-<br />

Morais Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro. Mel<br />

writes that he and his family would welcome<br />

classmates who may happen to pass<br />

Kenneth J. Riskind, 1906 Berkeley Rd.,<br />

Highland Park, 111., has been promoted to<br />

treasurer of Fullerton Metals Co., Chicago.<br />

Kenny's meteoric rise at Fullerton is attributed<br />

to the fact that he was a real man<br />

of the year. He is chief of the East Wilament<br />

volunteer fire department and ambulance<br />

squad. Kenny and wife Judy are the<br />

proud parents of Patty Lu, 1.<br />

Paul C. Markus, 3957 Gouveneur Ave.,<br />

New York, is the assistant sales manager<br />

of the Idle Wild Farms, Inc., Pomfret<br />

Center, Conn. He received his master's in<br />

economics and marketing at <strong>Cornell</strong> in<br />

1960. He later worked for Lever Brothers<br />

Co. in the food division. Continuing with<br />

his hockey since school, Paul plays in<br />

there were hundreds of letters on my desk,<br />

I would feel guilty about the lack of a<br />

column so often lately, but since the pile<br />

is almost non-existent, I don't feel guilty<br />
