One <strong>of</strong> the specimens from Algiers has partially doubled maxillary parts . As<br />

in S. rudolphi, the more ventral, unworn parts are thought to be replacements .<br />

Distribution . The type locality is the Adriatic, but the species has been<br />

reported from northern European latitudes to tropical West Africa in the<br />

Atlantic, as well as from several localities in the Mediterranean . It has been<br />

found only in shallow water .<br />
