In Navy Region Southwest (NRSW), having enough to do
has not been a problem for Navy Gateway Inns and Suites
(NGIS) mobile repair teams. Equipped to repair clothes
washers, dryers and security cameras, the three teams stay on
the road, and on the job.
Starting in 2010 with one team, the San Diego NGIS implemented
an in-house preventative maintenance and repair
program for washer and dryer repairs, and security camera
surveillance systems. This innovative approach started with
one two-person team, a custom lift-gate truck and spare parts.
The first team affected significant cost savings and reduced
service response time for the five area NGIS facilities.
The program was so successful, two additional teams were
added. Today, three teams are in operation supporting NGIS
at 10 installations. Mobile maintenance and repair trucks are
fully equipped with tools and replacement parts, so the teams
are able to perform repairs onsite with virtually no down time.
The program not only provides excellent quality of service
and response time, the increased preventative maintenance
extends equipment life.
Best of all, the NRSW NGIS experiences an annual savings
of approximately $1 million over individual maintenance
repair contract cost. These savings are passed on to the sites
to improve the program. Site directors and installation staff
constantly provide favorable feedback on the program, and it
has truly been a huge win for all.
Gear Dryers
Continental Girbau ExpressDry Gear Dryers,
distributed by excel laundry equipment, are engineered
to safely and quickly dry personal protective
equipment, including turnout gear, helmets, gloves,
boots, face masks and self-contained breathing apparatuses
(SCBA). The dryer works by blowing a
large volume of air, at high pressure, safely through
the garment, drying even hard-to-reach areas. It is
NFPA compliant and accommodates up to six turnout
suits simultaneously.
