Outdoor Track & Field Titles<br />
Petersburg, VA – Saint Augustine’s won its 16 th consecutive men’s<br />
title and Johnson C. Smith captured its 2 nd women’s crown in<br />
three years on the final day of the CIAA Outdoor Track & Field<br />
Championships held at Rogers Stadium on the Virginia State<br />
University campus.<br />
In the men’s events, St. Aug scored 213 points to run away with<br />
the championship. Virginia State was second with 123 points,<br />
and Virginia Union was third with 101 points. In the women’s<br />
events, Johnson C. Smith scored 146.50 points to claim first<br />
place. Winston-Salem State was second with 108 points, and<br />
Virginia State was third with 101 points.<br />
Jermaine Jones of St. Aug won men’s track most outstanding<br />
performer honors after winning the 100 dash, 200 dash and<br />
anchoring the 4x100 relay team to victory. Berfrantz Charles of<br />
Virginia Union was named men’s field most outstanding<br />
performer, after placing second in the long jump and triple jump<br />
and third in the pole vault.<br />
Samantha Elliott of Johnson C. Smith was the women’s track<br />
most outstanding performer, after winning the 100 hurdles and<br />
the 400 hurdles. She also finished third in the 100 dash and the<br />
200 dash. Kendall Reynolds of Bowie State and Tajanel McNeil<br />
of Winston-Salem State shared women’s field most outstanding<br />
performer honors. Reynolds won the triple jump, and was second<br />
in the long jump. McNeil was second in the triple jump, third in<br />
the high jump and fifth in the long jump.<br />
St. Aug trailed Virginia Union 59-41, after the first day, but scored<br />
172 points on Saturday to distance itself from the field. <strong>The</strong><br />
Falcons won nine of 17 events during the two-day meet. Jones<br />
Mbow of St. Aug Wins 400<br />
Hurdles at Penn Relays<br />
Philadelphia, PA – Elhadji Mbow (Jr./Dakar, Senegal) of Saint<br />
Augustine’s University won the men’s 400 meter hurdles in the<br />
Championship Division at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.<br />
Mbow, the top-ranked 400 hurdler in Division II, ran a time of<br />
51.19 seconds. Teammate Akido Noel (Jr./Phoenix, AZ ) was 12 th<br />
in 52.83.<br />
Mbow’s victory was one of several highlights for St. Aug, the<br />
NCAA Division II Men’s Indoor Track & Field Champions. <strong>The</strong><br />
Lady Falcon foursome of Shamia Lassiter (Fr./Chesapeake, VA),<br />
Akeisha Dumont (Jr./Grenada), Alexandra Marshall-Wheaton (Jr./<br />
Hyde Park, MA) and Nicketa Bernard (Sr./Westmoreland,<br />
Jamaica) finished fifth in the women’s College Division 4x100<br />
relay in 46.03. <strong>The</strong> group of Daniel Jameison (Fr./Windsor, CT),<br />
Ty’reak Murray (Jr./Portsmouth, VA), Mbow and Marcelis Lynch<br />
(Sr./Stone Mountain, GA) placed fifth in the men’s Championship<br />
of America sprint medley in 3:20.27. <strong>The</strong> men’s 4x400 team,<br />
ranked first in Division II, ran the second-fastest time of 3:04.90<br />
in preliminaries to qualify for Championship final. <strong>The</strong> team<br />
consists of Edmonds, James Quarles (Jr./Washington, D.C.),<br />
Ellis, Jr. and Dane Hyatt (Jr./Goodwill, Jamaica). <strong>The</strong> quartet of<br />

(100 dash and 200 dash) and DeJon Wilkinson (long jump and<br />
triple jump) led the way for the Falcons with two victories each in<br />
individual events. Other winners for the Falcons were Akido Noel<br />
(javelin throw), Ty’reak Murray (110 hurdles), Dane Hyatt (400<br />
dash), Marcelis Lynch (1,500 run) and the 4x100 relay team of<br />
Ramaan Ansley, Taffawee Johnson, Burkheart Ellis, Jr. and<br />
Jones.<br />
<strong>The</strong> winners in the other men’s events were Matthew Huckabee<br />
of Lincoln (shot put), Darien Kearney of Virginia State (discus<br />
throw), Jamaal Petty of Virginia Union (high jump), Jonathan<br />
White of Virginia Union (pole vault), Daniel Ross of Virginia State<br />
(400 hurdles), Prince Owusu-Mensha of Virginia State (800 run),<br />
Franck Charles of Virginia Union (5,000 run) and the Virginia<br />
State 4x400 relay team of Te’Shad Chambers, Ross, Owusu-<br />
Mensah and Clive Cameron.<br />
Elliott and Danielle Williams led Johnson C. Smith to six victories<br />
in the women’s events. Williams won the 100 dash and 200<br />
dash, in addition to Elliott winning both hurdles races. Imeshia<br />
Jones of the Lady Golden Bulls was the winner in the javelin<br />
throw and the foursome of Naffene Briscoe, Williams, Trudy-<br />
Ann Richards and Monique Lovelock were victorious in the 4x100<br />
relay.<br />
<strong>The</strong> winners in the other women’s events were Diane Lindsey of<br />
Lincoln (long jump), Brelyn Finley of Bowie State (shot put),<br />
Chelsey Fuller of Virginia State (discus throw), Morgan Heath of<br />
Lincoln (high jump), Quanera Hayes of Livingstone (400 dash),<br />
Kelly Shaw of Saint Aug (800 run), Taylor-Ashley Bean (1,500 run<br />
and 3,000 run) of Virginia State and the St. Aug 4x400 relay team<br />
of Akeisha Dumont, Nicketa Bernard, Cherrisse Lynch and Shaw.<br />
Ramaan Ansley (Sr./Philadelphia, PA), Taffawee Johnson (Jr./St.<br />
Ann, Jamaica), Ellis, Jr., and Jones qualified for the Men’s<br />
Championship 4x100 relay finals, after running the third-fastest<br />
time of 39.98 in preliminaries. Ty’reak Murray (Jr./Portsmouth,<br />
VA) qualified for the men’s 110 hurdles finals with a time of 14.13<br />
in preliminaries. DeJon Wilkinson (Jr./Summerville, S.C.) took<br />
seventh in the Men’s Championship Division long jump with a<br />
leap of 23-3½.<br />
Jackson of St. Aug Wins<br />
Valley Pine Golf Invitational<br />
Lasker, N.C. – Chris Jackson (Freshman/Raeford, N.C.) of Saint<br />
Augustine’s University was the individual winner at the Valley<br />
Pine Spring Invitational Golf Tournament. Jackson shot a 75 to<br />
finish first individually. Josh Bryant of Chowan University was<br />
second with a 76, and R. Calvin Mason of Johnson C. Smith<br />
University was third with a 79.<br />
Jackson led St. Aug to a second-place finish with a 329 score,<br />
seven strokes behind tournament winner Chowan, which shot a<br />
322. Johnson C. Smith was third with a 342 team score. For St.<br />
Aug, Paolo Ceyrolles (Freshman/Raleigh, N.C.) and Michael<br />
Gardner (Freshman/Wilson, N.C.) each shot a 83.<br />
