Re-Writing the WAC Book<br />
Junior Hannah Kiser won the women’s 3000m at the WAC championships with<br />
a time <strong>of</strong> 9:40.35 beating her WAC championship record from last season by<br />
nearly five seconds. Kiser also beat her WAC all-time record in the event earlier<br />
in the season posting a time <strong>of</strong> 9:04.74. She didn’t stop there; Kiser then went on<br />
to take the WAC all-time record in the mile with a time <strong>of</strong> 4:37.55.<br />
Joining Exclusive Company<br />
Sophomore Matt Sullivan was the third person in <strong>Idaho</strong> school history to break<br />
the 17-foot barrier in the men’s pole vault when he cleared a height <strong>of</strong> 17-07.75<br />
(5.20m) on his first attempt. His height was fourth best in the WAC for the<br />
indoor season.<br />
Smashing Records<br />
Vandal junior Hannah Kiser broke the broke the <strong>Idaho</strong> school record in both the<br />
3000m and the mile run. Her 3000m time <strong>of</strong> 9:04.74 beat the previous school<br />
record by 40 seconds and ranks 5th in the NCAA so far this season and leads the<br />
WAC by 37 seconds. Her mile time <strong>of</strong> 4:37.55 is 22nd in the NCAA so far this<br />
season. Senior Liga Velvere beat the pre¬vious school record in the 800m posting<br />
a time <strong>of</strong> 2:07.63. Velvere also joined junior Karlene Hurrel, senior Keli Hall<br />
and senior Lauren Schaffer in the 4x400 relay team that broke a 12-year school<br />
record at the WAC championships posting a second-place time <strong>of</strong> 3:41.57.<br />
A Shinny Pair <strong>of</strong> Awards<br />
Senior Barry Britt became the first <strong>Idaho</strong> man in school history to win both the<br />
3000m and 5000m at a single conference meet when he posted first-place finishes<br />
in each event at the WAC Championships. Britt was also honored at the meet<br />
with the WAC Track Performer <strong>of</strong> The Year and the WAC High Point Award.<br />
Frist School Record Falls<br />
Vandal senior Lauren Schaffer became the first Vandal to re-write the<br />
school record book this season with her first-place time <strong>of</strong> 1:33.9 in the<br />
600m at the indoor season-opener. Schaffer’s time beat the previous<br />
school record set in 1982 by Allison Falkenberg-Ryan.<br />
