Community Comments and Ranking of Priorities March 10, 2011<br />

Following a brief introduction and review of the first Education/Workforce Focus Group community and stakeholder<br />

comments, the focus group participants were asked to provide a listing of desired development related activities (short or<br />

long term). Each participant was given the opportunity to vote for two activities they would like to see for <strong>Hardee</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong>. The activities included:<br />

• Ways/opportunities to keep jobs here (not export)<br />

• Programs to engage kids (educational)<br />

• Expand technical-vocational programs<br />

• Separate vo-tech school (i.e., 3 yr program)<br />

• Expanding school-family support<br />

• Expand diversity of educational opportunities (pre-k, public, private) and look at careers and transferability<br />

• Accountability for parents; create successful opportunities<br />

• Public-Private-Partnerships (help fund gaps in education system) and partnerships with businesses and trusts<br />

• Establish internships with businesses and industries (can quality for class credit)<br />

• Look at successes across the state and nation, and apply the model(s) here<br />

• Provide local flexibility for curriculum and programs<br />

Participants were given the opportunity to discuss the activities, ask additional questions, discuss possible grouping of<br />

certain activities and talk with the other attendees prior to voting. The activities received the following votes:<br />
